"New Year, New You"... Another One
2 1/2 Weeks until January 1st. What're you actually going to change?
New Year’s resolutions are right around the corner.
Every year, 1 out of 3 Americans make resolutions.
23% give up by the end of the 1st week, 64% by the end of the first month.
What’s absurd for me is to read that 43% who set New Year’s Resolutions expect to give up by Febuary and only 9% of those who make resolutions at the New Year achieve them.
It’s almost as if we love the notion of change but when a challenge arises, we buckle under the pressure.
Why is that?
Most can talk the talk, but few are willing to walk the walk and dig at and therefore expose the roots of what causes them to cave.
On top of that general aspect, Modern man loves to receive instant gratification. When making changes for the new year, it goes unsaid that it will take time. Today we live in a society that rewards what you say and turns an eye to what you do.
There’s been some evidence to show that we receive the dopamine usually reserved for the motivation to achieve tasks is released by simply telling others what we are going to do. The body in turn sees it as the same and therefore the desire to place forth the effort needed to push through the difficult challenges is diminished. Making it harder and harder for you to change.
Creating Change means committing to a New Self-Identity.
We tell ourselves the same stories about why we are the way we are. We don’t commit to the change because we see ourselves for who we are in the now. We get discouraged when we realize how far we have to go to achieve what we want to achieve.
When the thought process comes to, “How would the best version of myself make the decision?” It is easier to step into those shoes.
It is easier to do the things you need to to create change.
No more saying, “Im a fatass”, “I can’t run”, “Im weak.”.
More of, “I am losing weight.”, “I can run”, “I am strong.”
Easier said than done.
These decisions need to be based on what certain values you are striving to embody. If the better version of you has more integrity, then when you have the choice to snack or to meditate you can ask yourself “Which decision leads me to have more integrity to my best self?” and then step into that decision.
The more you expose yourself to these questions the more you will be able to make the better decision.
This is how a new identity is embodied.
This is how you become part of that 9%.
This is how you change for GOOD.
Because it is possible, all hope isn’t lost, you have the POWER TO CHANGE
Great article D !!
