Do Hard Things - Together
Power of a Great Community
There’s some old adage that gets overused, but only because its true-
“If you wanna go far, go together.”
This past weekend spoke immense truth into that statement.
Zach Homol hosted some of the guys from his DO HARD THINGS community in Indianapolis for a training camp in preparation for The Prairie On Fire - Backyard Ultramarathon, which we are racing in September.
It was a mile-filled weekend.
Kicked off with a Trail Half Marathon on Friday night.
Moved into breakfast speaking on fueling strategies.
An hour after breakfast, an 8-mile track-stride workout.
Big Lunch, then 3 practice yards (4.167 miles in 1 hour) around the neighborhood.
Closed it down with a nice steak dinner.
33-ish miles in less than 24-hours. It felt like good training.
But here was the kicker, as the night and day wound down, one of our local buddies, Angel, came back after his classes. Most of the crew had left for the night, and it was just Zach, Charlie, and me.
Angel said he was going to hit his 3 yards now.
We all kinda looked at each other, and we knew we weren’t gonna let him run all of them by himself.
Zach said, “WE GOT 1 MORE “
And off we went on the extra credit yard.
Surprisingly, it felt really good.
See if it were just me, I most likely wouldn’t have gone out for 1 more. I would have been (rightfully) satisfied with my weekend effort.
But the group was going out, and I wasn’t going to stay behind.
Surrounding yourself with the right people who know you have more to give will truly show you what you’re capable of.
For a guy who mainly trains solo, training with others brings another level.
If you feel like there’s an edge to gain, a proper community will bring that out of you…
The Do Hard Things Community might just be the one you’re looking for.
